SAcrament

Composed January - March, 2012

Duration: 7'
Instrumentation: Flute and Chime (one performer)

A sacrament is the outward and visible sign of an inward and invisible grace. In this piece, the outward sound of the chime is inwardly explored by the flute. The flute emerges from the chime’s fundamental pitch, middle C (also the lowest note on the flute), and slowly climbs to the upper, less audible overtones that resonate above the clang of the chime. The piece concludes as the airy tones of the flute coalesce with the “invisible” notes of its percussive counterpart.
